About the Position

We're looking for a Senior Mechanical Designer with a strong background in HVAC system design to join our growing team in Pittston, PA. In this role, you'll contribute to all phases of design, from conceptual layouts through construction support. You'll work closely with engineers, clients, and team members on a wide range of projects, with opportunities to mentor junior staff, contribute to design standards, and take ownership of your work. This position reports directly to the Director of Mechanical Engineering.


Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct field inspections to assess existing mechanical systems and site conditions
  • Perform HVAC load calculations, ventilation analysis, and energy modeling
  • Select appropriate mechanical equipment based on system type, size, and performance criteria
  • Design air and hydronic distribution systems, including ductwork and piping
  • Perform pressure drop and flow calculations to size mechanical systems
  • Prepare construction documents, including mechanical plans, schedules, and details
  • Perform code analysis and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal building codes
  • Prepare CSI Master specifications for mechanical systems
  • Support construction administration by reviewing shop drawings, answering RFIs, and performing punch-lists
  • Collaborate with the design team and assist in mentoring junior staff

Qualifications

Education/Certifications:

  • Associate's degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology (ASMET) or related discipline required
  • EIT preferred but not required
  • LEED AP or equivalent sustainability credential preferred

Experience:

  • Minimum of 6 years of experience designing HVAC systems for commercial, healthcare, educational, or industrial buildings
  • Experience working with A&E consulting firms preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to lead portions of a project and coordinate with clients and consultants

Program Knowledge:

  • Proficient in Trane Trace 700 or Carrier HAP
  • Proficient in AutoCAD
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Familiarity with Revit is a strong plus
  • Understanding of ASHRAE standards and relevant building codes
